NESSEBAR MUNICIPALITY REPORTS PROGRESS AND ACHIEVED RESULTS ON PROJECT BSB867 BLACK SEA ARCHAEOLOGY, HISTORY AND CULTURE PORTAL

On 28 July 2022 was held a project press conference by Nessebar Municipality, Lead beneficiary of BSB 867 Black Sea Archaeology, History and Culture Portal / ARHICUP project, financed by the ENI Cross-Border Cooperation Black Sea Basin Programme 2014-2020.

At the event, a presentation was delivered to the representatives of the target groups, stakeholders and citizens, which followed the progress in the implementation of the main project activities in detail.

The newly acquired 3D static and mobile equipment for scanning and modeling of cultural values (museum exhibits, archaeological excavations and historical monuments) was presented. The achieved results were reported.

Currently, the creation of the digital content that will fulfill the individual sections of the platform continues: an integrated library system (ILS), digital library for the description and presentation of bibliographic, photo, audio, video data, 3D models presenting utility, Old Maps online library with WEB-GIS for georeferencing tool. The online portal is built on a special server with the ability to collect and present digital data in various formats. In the context of the sustainable cultural tourism and the real entry of the web technologies into everyday life, the ARHICUP Portal will be a repository of information through the use of reliable hardware and software solutions.

Thanks to the effective partnership of the international team, the National Museum of History of Moldova, Republic of Moldova and the Museum for National History and Archaeology Constanta, Romania, 3D models of historical and cultural sites, emblematic of the participating countries, have been selected and jointly created for the project. This was possible by the newly acquired technical equipment that created the conditions, provided the resource and built the capacity needed to realize the digital conversion on-site.

In 2021, as part of the project activities, exhibitions of old geographical maps were organized which presented the presence of the Black Sea region in the European cartography over the centuries. Hosts of the events were the Partners’ organizations of the participating in the project countries.

In June 2022, the joint scientific expedition was successfully carried out in southern Romania, where archaeological sites, part of the Roman road between Adamklisi and Dunareni in the Constanta county, were scanned with the newly acquired mobile 3D scanning station on field. The 3D reconstructions created during the expedition will became part of the portal’s fascinatingly presented content.

The participation of Nessebar Municipality in the digitization process of the cultural heritage is a guarantee for its future successful development in the promotion of the local cultural values – on the one hand, the creation of quality products with additional attractiveness, expanded and improved access, and on the other hand – their protection and preservation.
