The full autonomy of the Cossack troops was recognized and strengthened by firms by the Turkish sultans. The Cossacks from Dobrudja fought in the service of the Gate for more than a century, forming the first line of defense against the Russian armies, which were trying to force the Danube border on their way to Constantinople.
